How To Measure Guide

This comprehensive guide provides clear advice on how to accurately measure your child’s mattress, whether you are verifying the dimensions for a standard fit or measuring for a custom-made mattress through our ‘build your own’ service.

Measuring your little one's mattress is crucial, and we often receive inquiries from parents seeking guidance on the correct process. Emphasising the significance of accurate measurements, it not only impacts your child's comfort but also ensures their safety.

Step 1

For any sleep space, whether it's a pram, Moses basket, crib, next-to-me crib, travel cot, cot, cot bed, or single bed, it should be assembled fully before measuring for the mattress.

Step 2

With your sleep space assembled, measure the interior length and width of the solid base accurately. Head to toe and side to side.

For cribs, travel cots & next-to-me cribs with fabric sides, measure the length and width of the solid bottom base only.

Before finalising measurements, consider the safety guidelines mentioned on Steps 3-6.

Step 3

In line with safety certifications, the gap between the mattress and the sides and ends of the sleep space must not exceed 30mm (3cm) on all four sides.

Gaps larger than this can risk trapping limbs, which poses a serious safety concern.

This requirement applies across all of our mattresses.

Step 4

Additionally, we suggest checking for a stamp or sticker that often indicates the correct mattress size recommended by the manufacturer.

Step 5

If measuring for a cot or cot bed, ensure the mattress is not too tight against the sides - particularly for drop-side cot or cot bed models, as an oversized mattress may affect the use of this function.

Step 6

If measuring for a travel cot, cot or cot bed, check that the space between the top of the mattress and the top of the cot side bars is at least 50cm, which helps prevent toddlers from climbing out. In line with British safety standards, cot and cot bed mattresses should not exceed a depth of 10cm.
